Fort Island has two remaining Dutch structures: Fort Zeelandia and the Court Policy. It was the seat of the Dutch administration in the colony of Essequibo.

It is 155 acres paradise and has managed to keep its pristine rainforest intact. The forest is teeming with wildlife. Monkeys, sloths and more than 188 species of birds reside within the Sloth Island Nature Resort…. The Island is subject to two daily tides. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch and a short nature walk or paddling.
